WE’RE BACK-K-K-K-K!
Hey, it’s been hell getting back into the swing of things but August is here and summer is on its last leg, now the heat really kicks into gear.  Vacation was good, but now time is here to get down to business.  Hey, you know me, not too busy.

BIG BEAR CAR SHOW
For the Roadies getting ready for Big Bear, it’s comin’ up soon.  August 9-10.  We’re taking bets on the car that breaks down first and the one that has to be towed.  My guess is ????

BE-BOPPIN IN THE PARK
Most of us have already signed up for our local event on August 23rd.  If you haven’t sent in your app, call the city and let them know you want to park with the rest of us.  Looks like it is first app in that is where you park.  App order not club order.

 ROAD KINGS ON THE DL
Frank Nay spoke with Ron Carlson and looks like ole Ron beat the bear.  Ron went in for a scan and looks like chemo is working.  No sign of the beast.  Rosie Brandt was seen at the Santa Maria car show and is doing better.  She is a little fighter that one.  New to the list is Guy Faria.  Guy is doing better.  Guy developed an infection after surgery.  His son is home taking care of him.  He sounded great and will return after receiving a clean bill of health.

ROAD KINGS DRAG RACING REPORT FOR JULY 18-19, 2008
Al White and crew, Norm and the other Al took a trek north to Famoso Raceway / Bakersfield to do some
night racing with the West Coast Hot Rod Association.  At the driver’s meeting, Al was honored for his win
in C/Gas last race and his qualifying.  When they said night racing they were not kidding.  They raced till
3 o’clock Friday night, way past Al’s bedtime.  Fortunately, Al had almost another perfect run in A/FX right
off the trailer, so we all got to go to sleep early Friday night, 1 a.m.

At the end of qualifying, Al was #1 in A/FX and 5th in C/Gas.  Saturday night eliminations were exciting as always.
Al had 002 light in A/FX and ran a perfect 9.600 on a 9.60 index first round of C/Gas.  Went to the semi finals in
A/FX and then broke out and lost by 8 thousands of a second in C/Gas.  We all had a blast and think we did the
Road Kings proud.

On a side note [Al says, “I’m going to call the Army and get some night goggles, because I can’t see where the finish
line is or the exact whereabouts of the other car”].  See you in August for another night race at Famoso Raceway.

ROAD KINGS STEAL THE SHOW
At the F.A.B.A. car show on Saturday, July 26th, the Road Kings stole the show.  Most of the awards were handed
out to our members.  If there had been an award for club participation we would have come home with 14 awards instead
of 13.  Hey, next time!  The following is a list of members and their awards (some came away with more then one award).
Blake Wilcox - Best of Show & Best Special Interest, Chuck Stein -  Best Flames & 2nd Street Rod, Ted Saraf - 2nd Special Interest,
Ray Astamendi - Best Wagon, Don Baldaseroni - Best Paint Design, Greg Newton - Best Paint (Cars) & 2nd Custom,
Jim Gascoigne - Best Truck - Best Paint ( Trucks) & Best Engine (Trucks), Ron Bowers - Best Interior (Trucks)

Subject: Tire safety (sent in by Allen Brandt)
Good Tire Safety information to know.  Worth watching for sure.   When it starts, it has a very short lead-in that is not part
of the story. Just let it run a few seconds and the story comes on.  Some of you may have seen this, I hadn't so it was an
eye opener.  Wow !!  Please be careful, I had never heard of this before.  This is worth watching.  I’m going to read the code
on my tires now.
